Artist Statement: My work explores the human psyche, specifically the psychology of self. Fueled by memories and traumas, my paintings use humorous and emotionally charged imagery to display a range of psychological and emotional states through fragmentation, colour, expression, body language, and through play with perspective. As a starting point, I dive into my memory bank and/or observe my current reality and collect certain points from them that I think are essential to this journey of self-exploration. I transform these memories into painted self-portraits in which the artist is the subject and also the question. The changing conceptions of self and the complex relationship between my current reality and my past are important components of who I am.
