My work is an investigation into the uncanny and the effect of spaces on the viewer. Inspired by film sets, I have created a manufactured reality of both painted and found elements. The set is a seven by five-foot domestic space sitting on a wood platform. The structural elements which are in plain view makes the viewer are that this is a built environment while the platform allows them to physically step up and into a new space.
By utilizing both real objects such as a chair, and juxtaposing this with the painted wood panel and landscapes, the viewer experiences both the familiar and unfamiliar to create an uncanny feeling.
By allowing the viewer to step within the set, they immerse themselves within and create their own narrative. I have created a world that comes from within me to which I invite others into.
