Phyllis Gordon

Phyllis Gordon’s art practice is based in drawing, collage, painting and printmaking. Her work reflects a strong connection to the natural world, and, like many contemporary artists and writers, she is particularly focused on forests and trees. To the extent that her work falls within the landscape genre, it is informed by the current formidable risks facing the natural world and humankind as a result of global warming.  Her mostly studio-based practice is preceded by spending significant amounts of time in the forests, walking through new growth and burnt areas, taking photographs, being in the presence of what is still standing.

Gordon initially studied art in Vancouver, London and Montreal. Her direction veered to the law and she practised as a lawyer in Ontario for many years. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions around the Greater Toronto Area, including Visual Art Mississauga, Artworks Oakville, Colborne Art Gallery, and the John. B. Aird Gallery, Toronto. She is a member of Propeller Gallery and Open Studio Printmaking Centre, Toronto.
