Jane Cousens
Jane Cousens is a Toronto based artist who is passionate about encaustic painting. She studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design after completing a graduate degree at Queen's University in Kingston. Following a decades long career in public service she is now dedicated to encaustic painting and teaching yoga
Artist Statement: Jane takes full advantage of the ethereal qualities of a century old encaustic painting technique that fuses layers of translucent beeswax, oil paint, and resin with embedded ephemera. She begins each work with an intention, a question or a deep feeling and through the colour palette, texture, symbol, or subject matter infuses the intent to the art work. Her explorations of sensory and spiritual experience evokes a sense of vulnerability that is uniquely meditative and engaging.
