Artist Statement: Untitled 2 (Confrontation.) is grounded in physically oriented and processed based materiality. Created by manufacturing a synthetic environment capable of engulfing the viewer in a series of gestural marks, and exploring the process of creating a transcription of the physicality of the work and its relationship to the body. The illusion of light and form creates a space open to the viewers’ interpretation, reminiscent of natural earthbound elements. At its core, the work is an abstract exploration in how paint can be manipulated through a series of gestural marks, with a quality of immediacy and imperfection.
