Artist Biographies:

Jane Burgess is an artist and instructor from Elora, Ontario. She works primarily in encaustic, but also uses oil, acrylic and cold wax mediums. Her images are mostly abstract inspired by colours and shapes in nature.

Jane Cousens is Toronto-based artist dedicated to encaustic mixed media painting and printmaking. After completing a graduate school at Queen’s University in Kingston, she studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Now, following a decades long career in the public service, she is devoting herself to encaustic painting and teaching yoga. Her paintings have shown at the Propeller Gallery in Toronto and the Hive Gallery in Alton Mills, Ontario.

Amelia Kraemer (Owen Sound) holds a Bachelor of Arts in Near Eastern Archaeology and in Canadian History from Wilfrid Laurier University and a post-graduate certificate in Museum Management & Curatorship from Fleming College. Her work as an Assistant Archivist at Grey Roots Museum & Archives included programming, writing articles and essays, as well as website and exhibit design. In 2009, her life changed, when she was involved in a major car accident. Initially, she used fine art as therapy, but after discovering encaustic she was hooked.

Christina Lovisa (Ottawa) is a mixed-media and encaustic instructor. She continues to strengthen her knowledge of materials and mediums through independent studies. Over the past ten years, she has become an expert in encaustic art and published a DIY book called, Two Worlds Collide. Lovisa's work is represented by the Alpha Gallery of Ottawa, as well as various international galleries. Her original mixed media pieces can be found at Cirque du Soleil’s, MJ ONE boutique in Las Vegas.

Ruth Maude is a Toronto-based artist exhibiting encaustic paintings in the Greater Toronto Area. She is a web designer, instructor, and blogger. Ruth is the artist behind the popular All Things Encaustic blog. She enjoys experimenting with a variety of encaustic materials, techniques and tools and sharing what she discovers with other artists. Through experimentation she continuously pushes her creative journey in new directions.

A lifelong resident of Guelph, Carol Miotto draws from a successful 30-year career as a high school visual art teacher with the Dufferin-Peel Board of Education. While Carol enjoys working in a variety of media, her focus over the past several years has been on mixed media encaustic painting, incorporating photography, drawing, and sculpture. Since her initial introduction to the medium by fellow artist and instructor Andrea Bird, she has continued to develop and explore the flexibility and never-ending possibilities that this medium provides.
